Lisa Fam
Lisa has been an artist/maker since her early years. Growing up in 70's Melbourne, surrounded by a prolific native garden, nature loving and creative parents, she developed a love of the beauty of the natural world and making things.
Although Lisa initially trained in zoology, psychology and teaching, severe burnout saw her return to the creative life she had abandoned in her twenties. Seeing the profound effect of drawing and creating on her well-being she undertook studies in art therapy and later medicine doll making and acrylic painting.
Whilst deeply inspired by nature's beauty, Lisa is also curious about the terrain of the inner world and the relationship between the two. She endeavours to explore these realms to uncover the unseen, poetic and often joyous moments.
She brings these to life, mindfully working with her hands in whatever media assists her to achieve her creative vision. This could include textiles, embroidery, doll making, painting, book making and mixed media. Her overarching philosophy is to make do with what is readily available, and what is sustainable and caring for our planet.
Lisa is an exhibiting member of the Housing First Arts Collective since 2013, and in 2021 won the People's Choice Award. She is also a member of the Women's Art Register and the Naarm Textile Collective.
Some of her doll work can be seen in "The Healing Doll Way: A Guided Process Creating Art Dolls for Self-Discovery, Awareness and Transformation" by Barb Kobe.
