I was born in the Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh, and have lived in Gippsland since 1990. I travel frequently to the city where I draw inspiration from Melbourne's vibrant culture, but I enjoy the contrast of working from the quiet surrounds of my studio at home. My favourite subjects are pubs, cafés, shopfronts and dilapidated buildings. Some are iconic and very much a part of the fabric of the city, others are ordinary, non-descript structures, but they all reflect my passion for the urban environment. My preferred medium is acrylic on canvas, and I also incorporate pastel, charcoal and collage into my works to build up interesting textures, colours and layers. I am also very passionate about the local music scene which is a recurring theme throughout my work.
Since 2006 I have held a number of solo exhibitions including Marios Fitzroy, Tacit Galleries, Burrinja Cultural Centre, Little Woods Gallery Collingwood, Warragul Arts Centre, and Mr. Burch McKinnon. I participate regularly in group exhibitions throughout Australia and my work has been purchased by clients in Europe and the USA. I have been shortlisted for several major art prizes throughout Australia including the Fleurieu Art Prize in South Australia, the Hornsby Art prize in NSW, and the Flanagan Art Prize, Cancer Council Arts Awards and Archangel Art Prize in Victoria. I have also completed a number of private commissions.
In 2017 I collaborated with local musician Kim Volkman to edit and publish Kim's autobiography, "The Devil Won't Take Charity" and in 2019 we published another book together, “For Those That Dance With The Skeleton”. 2019 saw the release of my first book, “Blues Portrait - A Profile of the Australian Blues Scene” which was launched at The Rainbow Hotel, Fitzroy. Blues Portrait Volumes 2 and 3 were released in November 2021.
