Here at MAVA.Inc we have been hanging out to have a physical in-person exhibition for months! What with viruses, lockdowns and toilet paper selling out....again...it wasn't really possible, until earlier this month!
Together with Ferntree Gully Arts Society (a.k.a The Hut), we brought together some incredible artwork, with a food theme, under the title of Smörgåsbord.
From crab sticks, to tea cakes and fruit platters, even the cutlery, we had it all. Literally. And you should've seen the food spread that was put out on opening night!
(Top L to R) Crab-stik by Margaret Christianson, 2,4,6,8 by Kelly Kondis, Afternoon Teascape by Shirley Dougan.
(Bottom L to R) Hard Baked by Denise Keele-bedford, Pucker up Sunshine by Lisa Jones.
It was wonderful to be a fly on the wall and see everyone supporting and admiring artwork of their peers and people unknown. You might even spot our President!
Organising an exhibition is no easy task and sometimes at MAVA Inc. we can get a bit lost with all the to-do's and making sure everything is absolutely perfect for all our exhibitors that we forget how amazing it is to see all these artists from across Victoria come together and show case their work.
Opening night allows us to mingle, deconstruct and simply enjoy the artwork. We had such an great variety of work that you could get lost in all the different styles and how other artists approached such a broad theme of food. After two years of very limited access to the arts, these events bring much needed joy and inspiration to many.
And towards the end of the evening we even had a little toast from Shirley, the former President at The Hut.
We cannot say thank you enough for the team at The Hut for not only having us for the second time but also the support!
A massive thank you to all our members who had work in the exhibition. Smörgåsbord will be online from Saturday afternoon, March 19, and there will be other exciting exhibition news around the corner, so keep an eye on the website.
