Melbourne and Victorian Artists Inc. is an artist run association that creates opportunities for Melbourne and Victorian artists. Empowering artists to grow, learn and improve their art practice while simultaneously educating the public about the visual arts sector and our artists.
This marked MAVA's fifth exhibition as a collective, but the first as an official association. Originally scheduled for March 2020, "At Sea" was the most anticipated of them all and had to be a great show – it delivered.
The exhibition was installed on January 13, and opening celebrations were held on Saturday, January 16.
With such a long time between the original and eventual dates, many artists had already sold their submissions. With a confirmed date and a slight adjustment to the curation, it was a relief to have the artwork on display for everyone to see.
Although we were limited to 100 people in the space due to COVID-19 regulations, we were pleasantly surprised with the turnout. In total, about 150 art lovers and artists attended opening celebrations throughout the night.
The curation and exhibited artworks were well received and, as usual, it was a very energetic event. Many of the attending artists had the opportunity to meet those they had only previously interacted with online.
With the exhibition closing on February 2, you still have time to visit! Let us know your thoughts and we look forward to hosting more in coming months. Details will be released in the near future... please regularly check the What's On page for updates.
