Coral Calamity
Coral Calamity is a sculpture on a rotating platform representing a reef environment and portraying the repercussions of environmental neglect. One side of the sculpture depicts ‘coral bleaching’ due to climate changes and waste contamination. I believe artists are a powerful medium to spread important environmental messages by using sustainable, environmentally safe materials recycling, reimagining, and repurposing items. The materials used to create it are in fact some of the worst environmental polluters causing permanent damage to ecology and sustainable food resources. Only non-toxic water-soluble glue and the (recycled/waste) wooden turntable were purchased to create it.
