Reimagine
Reimagine references sustainable principles and ideals; the most obvious being waste and recycling. Materials have been repurposed to form the basis of this piece. The flattened box communicates on dual fronts; it is symbolic of our environment, the package surface emulating earth in its’ varying states of disrepair, areas are imperfect, torn, eroded, weathered and laboured. The box further serves to illustrate the metaphor ‘thinking outside the box’ one used to describe a different mindset of unconventional, novel or creative thought. Rectangular blocks cut from discarded test prints are employed to denote these thoughts and ideas; some align and co-ordinate more readily than others yet both benefit and complement the whole arrangement. Symbolic imagery is used throughout to signify ideals and concepts, the red bird, a sign of freedom, hope and new beginnings. A leaf pays homage to nature and symbolises growth and renewal. The inclusion of woven white bag ties, plastic netting and rubber bands suggest a need to review production processes, work smarter and more sustainably. While wave like patterning is suggestive of alternative available energy sources, solar, wind and hydro power. A blank ‘used by’ sticker also features, and speaks out as a presage to the unknown future timeline. The final addition to this collage, a feather, signals a response from a state of fight or flight. Our future demands us to embrace new ideas and design solutions to enable a bright future for all mankind.
