Soma Art
Untitled design.png

I’m a proudly Ukrainian-born, emerging Melbourne artist. Years of study, practice and numerous commissions for my loved ones have given me the confidence to get to this stage - exhibiting through MAVA!

Bodyscapes are my passion - representing fleeting moments of unique shapes and shadows, forever lost unless captured at a single point in time. Deeply personal and intimate, each body's curves and outlines offer unique blends of light and shade, captured in monochromatic oils, predominantly on linen canvas.

I discovered drawing and painting in 2018 after retiring and I was surprised that I was able to produce reasonable basic work! I have a creative side in that I have written stories and poetry from a young age, and had a babywear sewing business (from home) for 15 years while working as an Executive Assistant. My father was an art teacher but I had never had an interest in learning art. To discover how much I could fall in love with painting, and in particular watercolour was a revelation to me!
